Project Summary

Problem Identified

When we thought about people being in lock-down for more than a year, we found so many aspects that could become a challenge with time. The topic of mental health and cabin fever stuck with us. We dug deeper and researched about Cabin Fever and affects on the mental health of people during this lock-down, especially young children. This is concerning because children are in a developing stage and they need the correct factors and favorable environment that aids proper mental development.

Design Innovation

We researched from the internet and conducted surveys and interviews of parents to study the effects of the current lock-down on the mental status of children aged 4 to 9 years. There were a lot of changes that parents agreed to have noticed in their child recently; which included increased negative traits, disturbed lifestyle and excessive use of technology. This is caused by either neglect and less attention from parents or due to toxic household environments.

Impact On The Society

We came up with Project Buniyaad to tackle the same. We used surveys, design thinking, brainstorming and impact-effort mapping to come up with a solution to prevent cabin fever in children and to make them more productive and happy by keeping them engaged and informed. We developed a two-way interaction system between the children and their teachers through an online video platform. The teachers will be conducting 3-4 online sessions with the children which will teach them life skills and increase their awareness about the current situation.
